Community in Organizational Research: A Review and an Institutional Logics Perspective

More than a decade ago, Thornton and colleagues added community to the inter-institutional system argued that logic shapes individual organizational behavior, determines organizing principles, influences community–organization relationships. In justifying this addition defining ideal type, they drew mostly upon literature on local communities organizations. However, increasing relevance of other types organization studies necessitates re-examination further specification framework. This article starts with review 172 papers from highly ranked management journals over last 30 years summarizes insights four for which discussion has flourished: place, practice, users, firms. is followed by pattern matching explore whether these follow initial description logic.
